Excess sun exposure is the single largest cause of ageing and DNA damage caused by free radicals. However, UV exposure is also the largest contributor of Vitamin D, an important antioxidant in protecting and repairing DNA damage.

We recommend a diet rich in Vitamin D (irradiated mushrooms, oily fish such as salmon, sardines, herring and mackerel, egg yolks and fortified cereals. However, the ingestion of foods alone will not deliver sufficient quantities of Vitamin D.

The saying "moderation is best in all things" (Plautus c, 250-184bc) seems to hold true for exposure to sunlight. A vitamin rich diet and moderate exposure to sunlight seems to provide the right balance to deliver sufficient Vitamin D to protect and repair DNA and promote general wellbeing.

If embarking on extended periods outdoors, we recommend the use of a product with an appropriate SPF rating as part of your skin care regimen. Skinlabs Direct provides such a product, which uses all natural ingredients and no chemical UV blockers. We also recommend additional protection such as wearing a hat, sunglasses and the covering up of exposed parts of the body.

Skin care for all ages and skin conditions.
